Sioux Faragher-Hurley – Membership DirectorSioux Bio Photo4jpg

After receiving her RSA degree at the age of 15, Sioux began working at the main Dunlop Tyre plant in England, as a typist and typesetter for the publication of their world-wide catalogue. Gaining further diversity working for Apex Staff Agency in Birmingham, Sioux travelled throughout the Midlands performing many tasks, from translating  technical manuals from German and French to completely re-aranging the corporate filing system for Lucas Industries; she never refused an assignment. Her Native American blood soon sent her searching for warmer climates so in the early 60’s, she packed a shipping trunk and boarded a cargo ship bound for Jamaica. While living and working throughout the Caribbean, she was an avid Scuba diver, photographer and sailor, racing in the first Mum’s Cup to be held in the Virgin Islands. Sioux moved to Sarasota in the late 90’s and spends most of her time running her full service travel agency.

Alice Flint – Director

After attending several club events with my good friends the McIlraiths, I decided to become involved in our fun organization. My Scottish heritage is from a great-great grandmother named Christina Hall. I’m originally from upstate New York and moved to Sarasota with my late husband in 2004. I worked as a teacher and librarian and now enjoy playing golf and bridge.

Frank MacIntire – Director

Frank Mac (4)

Frank graduated from Penn State University with a degree in Dairy Science in 1955. He partnered with his brother Wilson, a Cornell graduate, in taking over the family farm in Cortland, NY. After the sale of the farm in 1978 he ventured into marketing, including real estate and insurance which later took me to Massachusetts.

He spent the last 20 years before retirement in Boston where he met his current wife, Mary Ellen McMahon, at ballroom dance classes.

He has a passionate hobby of bird carving and has earned recognition at art shows for some of my works.

Frank and Mary Ellen retired to North Port FL in November 2013 and live here year round. We usher at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Center and at Holly Hall for the Sarasota Orchestra.

We were chairpersons for the Thistle Ball this past April and I look forward to being a very active member of the Caledonian Club.

Shona Burtner

Shona -1

Shona is a native Scot who was born and raised in Ayr (just a few miles from the birthplace of Robert Burns).  She left Scotland to work for NATO Headquarters in Brussels, and then moved to Washington DC to work for the International Monetary Fund.  It was there that she met and married Bob (a career army officer).  Soon afterwards, they relocated to Heidelberg, Germany where they lived for 9 years.  After Germany it was back to Ayr to run a “Bed and Breakfast.”   However, that Scottish weather soon got the best of them and so they moved to sunny Sarasota in 1992.  They joined the Caledonian Club at the summer picnic of 1993 and have been active ever since.
